3 Sites You Must Know About So You Can Avoid Toxins In Your Skin Care Routine

Did you know that toxic chemicals and ingredients are being used in everything from beauty and personal care products to everyday items of household use?

Our exposure to these chemicals is no longer safe for us, although the FDA claims that exposure to these toxins isn’t harmful.

Why Should You Be Concerned?

The FDA has not evaluated  90% of the 10,500 cosmetic and skin care ingredients that are being used by manufacturers in producing skincare, beauty, and personal care products.

While you won’t drop dead after applying your perfume or face cream the use of all these countless chemicals combined may have possible long-term side effects and we should be concerned.

The European Union has banned more than 1100 ingredients that are used in cosmetics due to fear of causing cancer, reproductive harm, or birth defects. The US bans just 10.

You’d be surprised to know that many of the skin and beauty care manufacturers aren’t even required to mention all their ingredients on the label in order to protect their trade secret.

Where To Look To Research For Yourself

It’s important to research for yourself what products are less toxic to use. Don’t rely on the government or anyone else to do the work for you.

Don’t get overwhelmed. Just research a few of the products you use daily and start switching them out slowly. These changes will go a long way in the health of your family.

Start with one of these 3 sites to discover what products are safe.

1. The Environmental Working Group

The Environmental Group’s Website  is committed to the research and evaluation of skin care products. It publishes news, tips and reports on safety rating for different products in various categories and is the largest source of safety rating of products listing more than 50,000 products. You can easily navigate EWG’s Skin Deep Cosmetics database to find out if the skin care products you use meet safety standards and if they don’t learn which ones do.

2. GoodGuide

Another place where you can find out if the products you’re using are safe and toxic free is GoodGuide. It assigns scores to products based on the health concerns rating of ingredients used and other negative information that might be available such as regulatory restrictions.

3. Safe Cosmetics

Since 2004 the  Campaign for Safe Cosmetics has been educating consumers as well as pressuring the beauty industry against the use of toxic chemicals in products. You can navigate the site to read the latest news, developments, and reports to find out about different products and their safety ratings.

What I Use For My Skin Care

I use a variety of essential oils in my cleaning and beauty routine. I also purchase some products online such as soap, sunscreen, deodorant, and shampoo.

My favorite way to purchase essential oils is in the Simply Earth subscription box.

Simply Earth puts together a different box each month allowing you to slowing grow your essential oils stash with a purpose. They take the guesswork out of it by providing recipes for using them, too.

I love the subscription box so much I asked for a discount for you, too.
Simply use STACYRUSSELLFREE when you place your order for your first subscription box. Simply Earth will send you via email a coupon via email for $40 off 2nd order. If you prefer, you can use the code for $10 off your purchase of a single oil.
